Mission Statement

To provide children, adults and families an effective support system to assist in obtaining self-sufficiency and a safe, stable, healthy living environment.


The Portage County Department of Job and Family Services consists of Public Assistance, Child Support Enforcement, Public Children's Services and Child Health Services. These departments interact with community-based social services agencies and other governmental agencies in helping needy children and their families as well as adults over 60.

The Department of Job and Family Services through a work force of 180 people determines eligibility and provides services to the needy through employment programs, cash assistance, Food Stamps, Medicaid, paternity establishment, support enforcement, adult protective services, child protective services, Health Clinic, foster care and adoptions.

Portage County JFS/CSEA/PCSA are governmental agencies which exist to support and supplement community employers, educational systems, and community based social service systems. Please continue on and see the programs we offer to help you personally.
