Child Health Services, a
division of the Department of Job and Family Services, provides
health services to those needing essentially well care – infants,
children and adolescents from birth to age 21. Care for sick
children is also provided.
Services include health screening, vision, speech and hearing
screening; vision and hearing clinics, physical exams, immunizations
and sick child care. Programs provide information about nutrition,
dental health, child safety and other topics.
The medical card or private insurance are accepted. A sliding fee
scale, based on the family income, is also available.
The clinic nurses see children at the well child clinic, acute
(sick) clinic and specialty clinics within the hours of 8 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Child Health Clinic is located
on the northeast end of the Portage County Administration Building,
449 S. Chestnut St., Ravenna, across the waiting room from the WIC
office.
Help Me Grow is a program that offers developmental screening and
connection to community resources for families with children in the
critical first three years of life that may have developmental
delays or who may be at risk for developmental delays . The delays
can be in communication, speech and hearing, motor, physical, social
or learning skills .

Newborn and prenatal visits can be provided in the family’s home by
a nurse who can provide a medical check to a new mother and baby and
make sure they are linked to all community resources available to
them.
Developmental screening visits for children up to age three are also
provided.
Bright Beginnings educational parent meetings are offered to
families with children under three years old or who are expecting a
baby. Bright Beginnings is an educational parent group with a
featured speaker or parent discussion on a topic. There are also
activities with the children. Lunch and babysitting are provided and
those interested should call the Help Me Grow intake office at
330-298-4545.
Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps
