In order to accomplish its mission, the Department's four main divisions perform a variety of functions critical to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of Portage County Families. These functions include:Click

   Nursing Services

  • Immunization clinics for children and adults
  • International Travel Immunizations
  • Flu and pneumonia shots for senior citizens
  • High blood pressure detection
  • Disaster response
  • Day care training program
  • Control of communicable diseases, including tuberculosis
  • Medical Reserve Corps Coordination
             

   Environmental Services

  • Inspection of sewage systems
  • Protection of the water supply
  • School health and safety including the inspection of cafeterias
  • Enforcement of motel and hotel regulations

  • Inspection of plumbing in all new private homes and commercial dwellings
  • Inspection of plumbing in existing homes prior to hook-up to sanitary sewer lines

   Administrative Services

  • Registration of plumbers, garbage trucks, and septic system installers
  • Issuance of permits for all new water wells, septic systems, plumbing, and mass gatherings
  • Licensure of restaurants, grocery stores, trailer parks, vending machines, motels, swimming pools, marinas, and solid waste facilities
  • Maintenance of accurate and complete statistics and records on all aspects of public health
